PROGRAM 4 This example was both a school project and a research project I did with my professor, Dr. Daniel Cliburn, and three other students. My main role in the study was creating the virtual environment and programming all of the 3d animation. Using a template for an opengl World, I created the project's opengl environment using c++ and GLUT(an opengl environment). For me, creating the 3d world was the most enjoyable enjoyable aspect of the project. The purpose of this project was to test the ability of people to recall structure, geography, and environment when using of different types of transportation, such as free roaming, teleportation, tracksystem( how a train takes you places). We were able to test the first two methods. The tests revealed that people who walk to a location better remember how to get there than those who used teleportation.

The research paper is entitled "The Effect of Teleportation on Recollection of the Structure of a Virtual World."The European Association for Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality(EuroVR), selected the paper for presentation at their December 2009 International Joint Virtual Reality Conference (JVRC) - the 15th Eurographics Symposium on Virtual Environments, in Lyon, France. http://jvrc09.inrialpes.fr I traveled to France with Dr. Cliburn and Prakash Surya and co-presented the paper. The conference selected color stills from my virtual world as illustrations for the back cover and last inside page of the conference brochure. My stills were the only color images in the brochure. Mr. Surya and I also were the only undergraduates at the conference. All other attendees and presenters had master's or doctorate degrees or were candidates for those degrees.
